PREVENTION OF MEDICAL ERRORS

(Mandatory 2 hour course for Licensees - $12.00)
All licensed Florida healthcare practitioners must take a two-hour continuing education course in Prevention of Medical Errors each time they renew their licence. The Board of Massage Therapy rule requires that all licensed massage therapists take this course each license renewal 2 year biennium. This course has been approved by the Florida Board of Massage Therapy.

FLORIDA LAWS AND RULES On THE PRACTICE OF MASSAGE THERAPY

(Mandatory 2 hour course requirement - $12.00)
All licensed massage therapists must take a two hour continuing education course on Florida Laws and Rules of the Practice of Massage Therapy. Our course includes the recent changes to the Florida statutes and rules on criminal background checks and increased state scrutiny of massage therapists and massage establishments. Our course includes a copy of state Statutes and Board rules on massage therapy regulation.

PROFESSIONAL ETHICS FOR MASSAGE THERAPISTS

(Mandatory 2 hour course requirement - $12.00)
All licensed massage therapists must take a two hour continuing education course on Professional Ethics each license 2 year biennium. Our course has been approved by the Florida Board of Massage Therapy.

Elective Courses

 

HIV/AIDS BASICS

(Elective 3 hour course- $18.00)
 This course can be taken by licensees who want or need more credits as part of the 24 hours of CE needed for licensure renewal. Applicants for licensure by Endorsement may take this course. This course traces the history of the HIV virus and world-wide AIDS epidemic, and looks in depth at attempts to curtail the epidemic, and includes the latest information on research, treatments, and trends, and safety issues for health care personnel who work with HIV or AIDS patients/clients.

LAWS AND RULES On THE PRACTICE OF FLORIDA MASSAGE THERAPY-TEN (10) Hour course
(Applicants for licensure ten (10) hour course requirement - $49.00)
Applicants for licensure who need 10 hours of laws and rules on Florida Massage therapy can take this course.  Our course includes the recent changes to the Florida statutes and rules on criminal background checks and increased state scrutiny of massage therapists and massage establishments. Our course includes a copy of state Statutes and Board rules on massage therapy regulation. This course can also be taken by current licensees as an elective course and it will meet the 2 hour course requirement, and give you 10 hours of accepted CE credits.

The Opioid Crisis in the U.S. – The Basics for Florida Health Care Professionals

(Elective 2 hour course -  $12.00)
NEW COURSE: This two (2) credit course covers the opioid epidemic that is killing many Americans every day. The increase in prescription opiate drugs for chronic pain and the surge in illegal opiate drugs is described. The causes for the opiate crisis and the efforts to stop the crisis are detailed. Federal and state action are covered with special emphasis on Florida laws cracking down on pill mills and doctor shopping. The reactions of the American Medical Association, the chiropractic, massage, physical therapy and other health care professional associations are related. Covers an explanation of how addiction occurs and what drugs are being abused, and what drugs are being used to treat addiction.

HEALTH INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (HIT) FOR HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS

(Elective 2 hour course - $12.00)
A 2 hour elective course that covers the basics of the rapidly growing field of Health Information Technology (HIT). Includes the federal laws (HITECH) that require health care professionals, hospitals and health care facilities to adopt the use of electronic medical records (EHRs). Covers meaningful use, privacy provisions, certification and electronic exchange of EHR systems. Annotated Bibliography and HIT Glossary are included. Will assist massage therapists to understand the use of electronic medical records in the practice of massage therapy in any health care setting, and increase communication between massage therapists, their clients, and other health care professionals.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE BASICS FOR HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS

(Elective 2 hour course - $12.00)
A 2 hour elective course that includes the historical and legal background on domestic violence, Florida law, current research on the dynamics of domestic violence, and the role of health care professionals in the recognition and treatment of domestic violence. Required by many health care facilities and offices. The materials will assist the massage therapist in understanding the psychological dynamics between the client, who has been the victim of domestic violence, and the massage therapist.

SEXUAL MISCONDUCT, DISCRIMINATION AND HARASSMENT

(Elective 2 hour course - $12.00)
A 2 hour elective course which covers sexual misconduct in the work place by any health care professionals, and the disciplinary and other penalties for engaging in sexual misconduct. Also covers the federal laws on sexual discrimination and sexual harassment in the work place. The course materials will assist the massage therapist or facility owner/manager understand the current laws on sexual misconduct as regulated by the state of Florida.

The Affordable Care Act – Basics And Debate

(Elective 2 hour course - $12.00)
This course provides two hours of home study credit about the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, or the Affordable Care Act - the most controversial health care reform law since 1965. The course covers the basics of the complicated new health care reform law, and the ongoing controversies and debates about the "individual mandate," Medicaid expansion, health care insurance coverage, and reimbursement policies. The U.S. Supreme Court ruling and its impact on the law are also explained. The controversial position of Florida government on health care exchanges and the expansion of Medicaid, and the ongoing national debate about the law are highlighted. A set of related definitions is included.

Medicare and Medicaid-Differences and similarities for Florida health care professionals

(Elective 1 hour course - $7.00)
NEW COURSE: This one (1) credit general elective course highlights and details the differences and similarities of the Medicare and Medicaid health care coverage systems which covers almost 40% of the U.S. population. It explains the different eligibility criteria between the two systems and the different benefits under each system. The rampant health care fraud found throughout Florida and state of Florida and federal efforts to prosecute health care facilities and licensed health care professionals for fraud are explained.
