prevention of MEDICAL ERRORS For Clinical Laboratory Personnel
 

(Mandatory 2 hour course for license renewal, $20.00, Course APPROVED by Florida Board of Clinical Laboratory Personnel)
All licensed Florida healthcare practitioners must take a two-hour course in Prevention of Medical Errors. The Board of Clinical Laboratory Personnel rule requires that all licensed laboratory personnel take the course each biennium. A recent Board rule change requires that the Prevention of Medical Errors course contain course curriculum on the prevention of medical errors as it relates to the practice of laboratory personnel.  Our course contains that information. Our course has been reviewed and approved by the Florida Board, and Florida lab personnel can take this course and be assured that it will be accepted for credit by the Board.

UPDATE ON HIV/AIDS FOR LABORATORY PERSONNEL
 

(Mandatory 1 hour course -  $14.00)
All licensed laboratory personnel must take a one-hour continuing education course in HIV/AIDS each biennium, including persons newly licensed in the current biennium. Applicants for Initial Licensure must also take a one-hour course in HIV/AIDS. The course was recently updated to cover the 30th Anniversary of HIV/AIDS, and the latest trends, both in the U.S. and worldwide, in research, treatments, testing, and prevention.

FLORIDA LAWS AND RULES FOR LABORATORY PERSONNEL- One Credit course

Updated course materials: includes the latest information on the repeal of Florida regulation of clinical laboratories. Starting July 1, 2018, Florida will no longer license clinical laboratories. Important details of the new law are highlighted in this updated course.

The Board of Clinical Laboratory Personnel rules make it mandatory that all licensed laboratory personnel take a one-hour course on Florida laws and rules governing clinical laboratory personnel. Our course is one hour and includes a copy of the Florida Statutes and Board rules on Laboratory Personnel regulation. We also offer a 4 hour course on Florida Laws and Rules for Laboratory Personnel which will also meet the mandatory requirement. It contains additional materials and copies of rules and statutes.

ELECTIVE General COURSES

Administration and Supervision for Clinical laboratory personnel
 

(Elective, General 1 hour course on supervision/administration -$14.00)

Updated course materials: includes the latest information on the repeal of Florida regulation of clinical laboratories. Starting July 1, 2018, Florida will no longer license clinical laboratories. Important details of the new law for Directors and Supervisors are highlighted in this updated course.

Meets the Florida Board of Clinical Laboratory Personnel rule requirement  that all Directors and Supervisors take a 1 contact hour course in Supervision and Administration each licensure biennium period. Contains the licensure requirements for Florida Laboratory Directors and Supervisors. Includes information on the duties and responsibilities of Directors and Supervisors under the CLIA'88, and Florida laws and rules of the Agency for Health Care Administration and the Florida Board of Clinical Laboratory Personnel. Can also be taken by Technologists and Technicians for general credit.


Medicare and Medicaid-Differences and similarities for Florida health care professionals

(Elective, general  1 hour course - $14.00)
NEW COURSE: This one (1) credit general elective course highlights and details the differences and similarities of the Medicare and Medicaid health care coverage systems which covers almost 40% of the U.S. population. It explains the different eligibility criteria between the two systems and the different benefits under each system. The rampant health care fraud found throughout Florida and state of Florida and federal efforts to prosecute health care facilities and licensed health care professionals for fraud are explained.

The Opioid Crisis in the U.S. – The Basics for Florida Health Care Professionals

(Elective, General 2 hour course -  $20.00)
NEW COURSE: This two (2) credit course covers the opioid epidemic that is killing many Americans every day. The increase in prescription opiate drugs for chronic pain and the surge in illegal opiate drugs is described. The causes for the opiate crisis and the efforts to stop the crisis are detailed. Federal and state action are covered with special emphasis on Florida laws cracking down on pill mills and doctor shopping. The reactions of the American Medical Association, the chiropractic, massage, physical therapy and other health care professional associations are related. Covers an explanation of how addiction occurs and what drugs are being abused, and what drugs are being used to treat addiction.

HEALTH INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (HIT) FOR HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS
 

(Elective, General 2 hour course - $20.00)  A 2 hour elective course that covers the basics of the rapidly growing field of Health Information Technology (HIT). Includes the new federal laws (HITECH ARRA) that require health care professionals, hospitals and health care facilities to adopt electronic medical records (EHRs). Covers meaningful use, privacy provisions, certification and electronic exchange of EHR systems. Annotated Bibliography included.

NEW COURSE! FLORIDA LAWS AND RULES FOR LABORATORY PERSONNEL-4 Credits
 

(Elective, General 4 hour course - $38.00)
Updated course materials: includes the latest information on the repeal of Florida regulation of clinical laboratories. Starting July 1, 2018, Florida will no longer license clinical laboratories. Important details of the new law are highlighted in this updated course.

The Board of Clinical Laboratory Personnel rule requires that all licensed laboratory personnel take at least a one-hour course on Florida laws and rules governing clinical laboratory personnel each licensure biennium. This new course provides four (4) credits  and includes a copy of the Florida Statutes and Board rules on Laboratory Personnel regulation. It meets the mandatory requirement and provides more detailed and additional information and awards four credits. Note it is NOT part of the special price package.

SEXUAL MISCONDUCT, DISCRIMINATION AND HARASSMENT
 

(Elective, General course 2 hour - $20.00)
A 2 hour elective course which covers sexual misconduct by all health care professionals, and the disciplinary and other penalties for engaging in sexual misconduct. Includes the Board of Clinical Laboratory Personnel rule on sexual misconduct and the penalties for violation of the rule.  Also covers the federal laws on sexual discrimination and sexual harassment in the work place.

The Affordable Care Act – Basics And Debate
 

(Elective, General 2 hour course - $20.00)
This course provides two hours of home study credit about the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, or the Affordable Care Act - the most controversial health care reform law since 1965. The course covers the basics of the complicated health care reform law, and the ongoing controversies and debates about the "individual mandate," Medicaid expansion, health care insurance coverage, and reimbursement policies. The U.S. Supreme Court ruling and its impact on the law are also explained. The controversial position of Florida government on health care exchanges and the expansion of Medicaid, and the ongoing national debate about the law are highlighted. A set of related definitions is included.
