License Renewal CE REquirements

Florida Licensed Electrologists: Here are the Continuing Education credits required for the current license renewal period which ends May 31, 2020.

  • Total of twenty (20) hours of continuing education taken from June 1, 2018 through May 31, 2020.
  • A two (2) hour course in Prevention of Medical Errors must be part of the 20 hours.
  • A one (1) hour course in Blood-borne Diseases must be part of the 20 hours. 
  • A course in HIV/AIDS is NO longer required except for new licensees. An HIV/AIDS course can be taken as an elective course by all licensees. (Electrologists cannot receive credit for the HIV/AIDS course taken for a cosmetology license. Cosmetology is regulated by the Department of Business, and the electrology license is regulated by the Department of Health. Under the law, the Electrolysis Council only accepts HIV/AIDS courses that are approved by any other Board or Council of the Department of Health.)
  • Ten (10) of the 20 credits can be by home study. All CE for Health Care Professionals - Florida courses are home study. The remainder must be by live or classroom study.
  • Laser hair removal continuing education training courses count as Continuing Education.
  • Extra course credits do not carry over from one license biennium renewal period to the next.

    There are different CE requirements for persons NEWLY LICENSED during the current biennium.
  • If licensed during the first year of the biennium (June 1, 2018 through May 31, 2019), you must take all 20 hours of CE including 2 hours of Medical Errors, one hour in Blood-borne diseases, and a minimum one hour of HIV/AIDS.
  • If licensed in the second half of the biennium (June 1, 2019 through May 31, 2020), you are exempt from the 20 hour CE requirement, but must take two hours in Medical Errors, one hour  in Blood-borne diseases, and at least a one hour course on HIV/AIDS.
